Mission:
Equitable access to safe and nutritious food is a basic societal need that impacts the health, livelihood and wellness of all humans. The ability to provide and sustain such access has become a major concern and a challenge for many countries around the world. The Food Supply Chain Analytics and Sensing (FSAS) Initiative is creating predictive analytical tools and technologies to improve the design and management of safe and reliable food supply chains that are accessible and sustainable.

Packaged Food Ingredient Database: Preliminary Findings
The FDA and the HHS recently announced the elimination of six petroleum-based synthetic dyes from the nation’s food supply chain by the end of 2026. How prevalent are these colorants currently in the American diet? Our recent report seeks to estimate the number and proportion of foods sold in the U.S. containing these 6 color additives.
Dr. Aouad Receives J-WAFS Seed Grant
FSAS faculty member Dr. Ali Aouad was recently awarded one of this year’s ten seed grants from MIT’s Abdul Latif Jameel Water & Food Systems Lab for his work studying optimal subsidy design for food assistance programs.

Congratulations Dr. Zerhouni!
Congratulations to El Ghali Zerhouni, a Ph.D. student on the FSAS team, on the successful defense of his thesis titled “Informing Public Health Policy Design and Operations with Analytics: Methods and Applications”. El Ghali graduated this May with his doctoral degree in Operations Research.
